Inner Space

System Configuration

The SoundSpace 8 consists of a main system unit, a pair of compact satellite speakers, and a subwoofer.

The main system unit combines an AM/FM tuner with Nakamichi's exclusive MusicBank™ 5-disc CD changer. With a variety of control functions and interface options, including a Mini-Disc recorder output connector, the main unit serves as the control center for the entire system. The subwoofer enclosure houses the high-powered amplifier for both the satellite and subwoofer speakers, delivering dynamic full-bodied musical reproduction. Two types of remote controls are supplied; one simple, one full-featured, for your operating convenience.

MusicBank™ 5-Disc CD Changer

With the quickest and smoothest operation possible, the MusicBank™ CD changer enables you to enjoy a wide range of programming options including continuous playback of all 5 discs. A blue light illuminates the disc-slot upon eject.

The MusicBank™ CD changer accommodates 5 discs without requiring a magazine, and is as simple to use as a single-disc player as each disc is individually loaded into the front-panel slot. Exchanging discs couldn't be easier; direct disc-access allows for each compact disc to be loaded or ejected one at a time. No need to worry about disc damage either, as Nakamichi's MusicBank™ mechanism never touches the discs' playing surface. Furthermore, MusicBank™ offers various programming functions, including all-disc memory play that enables playback of up to 50 track selections sampled from 5 compact discs.

The tuner section provides up to 30 station presets (10 AM and 20 FM). Incorporating high-performance radio receiving circuitry and digital synthesis tuning, high quality FM broadcasts will sound their best.

The multi-source capability of the SoundSpace 8 allows for easy integration of external audio and video sources. Interface options include an optical digital output for connection to a MD recorder and stereo mini-jack input / output connectors located on the side panel. RCA-type jacks located on the rear panel facilitate input/output coupling for video or tape recording equipment.

Nakamichi's legendary audio engineering expertise and extensive research into the characteristics of human hearing, has resulted in a loudspeaker system of particular merit. Phase differences, (frequency-dependent time delay) between drivers that cause distortion and coloration has been eliminated throughout the entire frequency range, making it possible for the speaker system to deliver musical realism with dynamic impact.

The SoundSpace 8 employs a uniquely configured 3-piece satellite / subwoofer speaker system, that offers numerous use and installation options. The L/R satellite speakers can be wall -mounted if desired. Optional floor stands and angle-adjustable wall-mount kits are available to further enhance set-up, and achieve an ideal positioning distance from the listener.

The L/R channel satellite speaker system features a 2-way, 3-speaker configuration. A parallel-driven 5 cm midrange driver delivers natural and well-defined midrange reproduction, while the 2.5 cm tweeter assures smooth and extended high frequency response. For optimized phase accuracy, the tweeter is mounted on the top of the speaker enclosure. By doing so, enclosure diffraction is minimized allowing a stable and clearly defined stereo image to emerge from the speakers.

The high-fidelity sound created by the satellite speaker system is ideally complemented by the rich, powerful bass delivered by the subwoofer.

The active subwoofer employs a 16 cm bass driver mounted in a bandpass enclosure to achieve both efficiency and dynamic bass response. A bass reflex port for sound dispersion is located at the top of the enclosure eliminating location-dependent changes in tonality. This design enables the subwoofer to deliver plentiful and accurate bass wherever it is placed in the room. For fine-tuning and system balancing, the subwoofer output is controlled independently of the satellite speakers via a level control located on the rear panel.

A wide variety of input / output connectors are available, including an optical digital output for attachment to an MD recorder.

The keyholes located on the rear panel make it possible to hang the main unit on the wall, along with the satellite speakers.

For easy remote control operation of basic functions, a compact simple remote (right) is supplied. In addition, a full-function main remote (left) is also provided.
